Belgorod's acting governor, Alexander Shuvaev, has mandated the restoration of mobile internet services and street lighting in the city, signaling a cautious easing of prior restrictions that had been imposed due to ongoing security concerns. "After a thorough analysis of the situation and taking into account the requests of residents, we decided to resume stable mobile internet services and switch street lighting back on in Belgorod," Shuvaev stated via his official Telegram channel on May 30. He also clarified that decisions regarding similar services in other municipalities within Belgorod Oblast will be managed by local authorities according to the evolving operational environment.
"In case of an escalation of threats, some restrictions may be temporarily reinstated," Shuvaev warned, underscoring the delicate security context in which these infrastructure services operate.
Previous regional leadership had expressed concerns about the partial shutdowns of mobile internet services, highlighting the impact on critical communication and public safety.
