Drone Attacks on Dnipro Cause Injuries and Fires, Impacting Local Infrastructure
Recent drone strikes in Dnipro injured seven people and damaged residential and commercial properties, highlighting risks to urban innovation hubs.
On the night of April 23, drone attacks targeted various districts in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro, resulting in injuries to seven individuals, including two girls aged 9 and 14. The strikes also caused fires in several apartments of a high-rise building, as well as damage to a shop and a car. These incidents underscore the vulnerability of urban centers that serve as critical nodes in Ukraine's tech startup and innovation ecosystem.
Impact on Residents and Infrastructure
According to Alexander Ganja, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration, the attacks led to a blaze in apartments located on the fourth and fifth floors of a residential building. The injured were promptly hospitalized, with the children and three adults described as having moderate injuries. Two of the adults are women aged 62 and 68, while a 35-year-old man was treated without hospitalization.
“The safety of civilians and the stability of urban infrastructure are crucial for sustaining the innovation environment in Dnipro,” said Ganja.
These recent strikes add to a pattern of aggression, with earlier attacks on April 21 injuring four people and causing damage to residential properties and vehicles. On April 22, additional strikes caused damage to multi-family and private homes as well as a car. The most severe attack occurred on April 16, when the city was hit by both drones and ballistic missiles, resulting in four fatalities and 34 injuries. Residential houses, garages, vehicles, and an educational institution were damaged during these strikes.
